AUSTIN, TX – A woman was arrested after she allegedly broke her 11-year-old son’s fingers with a piece of lumber because he did not clean the house to her liking.
Police responded to the home of 30-year-old Bernice White after receiving a 911 call connected to a fight between White and her adult sister.
When police arrived, they found White’s sister had a broken arm caused by White hitting her with a 1×4 piece of lumber. While searching the home, police also found White’s son with a bandaged hand and swelling, bruising and redness to his right upper thigh and left forearm.
After White’s son was transported to the hospital, doctors discovered the boy was suffering from several broken fingers and a fractured foot. Investigators say the injuries were a result of White beating the boy with the same piece of wood she used to break her sister’s arm.
According to the affadavit, White had returned home from work and turned all Mommy Dearest when she found the apartment had not been cleaned to her specifications. She reportedly chased her son to his room where she beat him with the board. The boy’s broken fingers and foot were the result of him putting his hands and feet up to cover his face.
White was arrested and charged with injury to a child, elderly individual, or disabled individual and is looking at a possible 10 years in jail if convicted.
