ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, VA — A 5-year-old boy is on life support after his mother beat him with a shoe and bashed his head on the floor.
Police were called to a home on a report of an unresponsive child. When officers arrived they found they a 5-year-old boy who was not breathing.
Deputies began life-saving procedures before he was eventually airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters where he was placed on life support.
During their examination, doctors found the boy suffering from significant bruising to his lower back and buttocks that were in the shape of a shoe.
When questioned, the boy’s mother, 32-year-old Jaye Hadley, admitted to police she had beat the boy with a shoe and slammed his head on the floor.
Police noticed a hole in a wall, but Hadley said that was from her son falling into the wall and had nothing to do with her.
Hadley was arrested and charged with felony child abuse and aggravated malicious wounding. She will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 8. Hadley’s boyfriend, 33-year-old Justin Cox, was also arrested and charged with child neglect.
“This child had some very serious injuries,” said Lieutenant Tommy Potter. “Our concern is that — was it one event that led to these injuries or were these injuries inflicted on this child over a course of time?”
The last report I could find about the boy’s condition was that he was still in critical care and is expected to have permanent brain damage if he pulls through.
