BURKE COUNTY, NC – Police have arrested 20-year-old Nicholas Clark and 24-year-old Brittany Hefner after they say they beat their 3-month-old baby to death.
Police responded to the couple’s home after receiving a call about a baby that had stopped breathing. First responders performed CPR on the infant before rushing him to the hospital, along with his twin brother.
Staff at Brenner Children’s Hospital in Winston Salem found that both boys had been abused. One was admitted in stable condition, while the other was admitted in critical condition and would die on Tuesday.
According to court documents, the baby died from an assault that caused “serious bodily injury, bleeding on the brain and neck injury.” The documents go on to say that both Clark and Hefner were responsible for the injures both boys suffered.
Hefner and Clark were initially arrested and charged with felony child abuse on Monday and are each being held on $75,000 bond. Additional charges are probably pending following their son’s death.…
