BURLINGTON, VT – A fight between two men on a bridge ended with one of them falling off the bridge and the other facing murder charges.

Jared Streeter and Joshua Granger, both 20, have had a long-running rivalry that hinged on them both being interested int he same woman.

The two men decided to settle things with an arranged fight on Saturday at the Blue Bridge.

The bridge is a railroad span over the Winooski River that is commonly traveled on foot as a shortcut between Burlington and Winooski.

The fight had its own set of rules, the main one being that no weapons would be allowed. The two men showed up, along with a small crowd, and the fight began.

According to witness statements, the crowd advanced toward the fight, causing the two men to back up toward the bridge.

At some point, Streeter got knocked out and hit his head on a metal railing. He reportedly was “sleeping for a good two seconds.”

Sleeter managed to get back up and resume fighting but he was visibly groggy. Granger punched Streeter again, causing Streeter to fall and roll off the side of the bridge.

Witnesses tried to grab Streeter when they saw him falling but failed. He landed on rocks 50-feet below and died from blunt force trauma to his head.

Granger fled the scene but turned himself in less than 15 minutes later. He was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

“The State can show that the Defendant was actually aware of the risk of death or great bodily harm, and he ignored that risk,” stated Chittenden County Deputy State’s Attorney Franklin Paulino.

If convicted, Granger faces 20 years to life in prison. He’s currently being held at the Northwest State Correctional Facility without bond.
